"Naturally Wild News"
January 2008
We're only through our first week of the new year, and we are already getting requests for our 2009 workshop list. We hope to have it soon, but first, we'd like to tell you more about our '08 listings.
Yellowstone in Winter
For those of you who inquired about our 2008 Yellowstone Workshop, you probably know that it's been booked for a while. However, we just received a cancellation for two due to health reasons. What that means is that we can now accept up to two more photographers (or one, plus a spouse) for our Yellowstone Workshop from February 3 to 8, 2008. This is on a first-come, first-serve basis as we cannot hold the openings without a firm reservation.
Photographers on this workshop will spend four (4) days in and around Yellowstone on snowmobiles photographing landscapes and wildlife. This is one of our favorite workshops, and it sells out every year.
To recap the highlights of the trip, lodging for five (5) nights, most meals, and a complete snowmobile package (including a snowmobile suit, boots, gloves, face mask, and a full tank of gas each day) are included, plus more. The cost is $1995 for double occupancy. Call (800) 866-8655 as soon as possible if you are interested.
Photoshop Class in February
Back by popular request, we are offering a special Photoshop class for nature photographers. This one-day course includes a program outline and the course lessons on DVD. You may follow along on your own laptop, or take notes to practice from home.
The course will be held on Saturday, February 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. In addition to the materials, lunch is also included. The cost is $129, but if you register by February 1, the early bird rate is only $109.
The Photoshop class will be taught in a spacious classroom, including limited table space for those preferring to work from a desk-type area, rather than auditorium seating. Lessons are projected onto a large screen, which will provide easy viewing of tips and techniques.
The course will be held near Logan, Ohio, close to the Hocking Hills State Park. So for those who want to make a weekend trip, there will be plenty of photo opportunities the following day. We can provide a Visitors Guide and a list of suggested photo hotspots, as well as lodging recommendations.
For reservations or more info, call (800) 866-866 or (740) 774-6243.
Traveling by Air
If you have not heard, the TSA has placed additional restrictions on Lithium-ion batteries. Effective January 1, 2008, travelers are limited by the number of spare batteries they make take onto planes to two (2). Additionally, the batteries must be packaged or stowed separately, according to the new TSA regulations. Click here for more information..
Nikon Digital Learning Center
If you have ever attended a Nikon School or recently purchased a new Nikon digital camera, you might want to check out the new Nikon Digital Learning Center. From the new educational site, you will find practical tips for taking better photos, tutorials, how-to articles, advice from the Nikon School Instructors, articles by pros, and even a glossary. Check it out; it's a great resource.
Adobe
Each one us may, from time to time, neglect updating our software due to busy schedules or casual procrastination; but don't despair! If you use Photoshop on a regular basis, we want to let you know that the new update for Camera Raw 4.3.1 is available from Adobe in their Camera Raw downloads section. So, consider this your friendly reminder.
This latest update supports the new releases from Nikon (D3 and D300) as well as Canon (EOS 1Ds Mark III).
