San Juan Mountains | Colorado  (SOLD OUT)
July 13-19, 2014

EPIC WOMAN PHOTO ADVENTURE - Join Barb Jividen in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado for an exclusively all-women mountain retreat, including photography, sightseeing, exploring, fun, and rejuvenation! This is a workshop that Barb has led many times. She is very familiar with the area, and considers this as one of her "favorite places of all time!"

There is only room for 5-6 adventurous women in order to facilitate some of the excursions. 
 
The workshop is very inclusive. The fee of $2095 not only includes many photo ops, it also covers: 
 
airport pick up and return (Montrose, Colorado) 
ground transportation

3 professionally-guided jeep excursions to some of the most spectacular "high country" meadows in North America
 
Barb will be leading the group to see and photograph several impressive sites:
 
nearby waterfalls and mountain lakes 
high meadows and wildflowers galore 
the large ghost town of Animas Forks
sightseeing and lunch in Silvertown, an "old west" town, and home of the working Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Train
 
This workshop is based from Ouray, CO (just a short drive from the Montrose airport). Suggested flights would be to Montrose, CO (via Denver, CO). The airport pick up is from Montrose on July 13th. 
 

Digital Photography Boot Camp in the Hocking Hills | Camp Oty Okwa
June 28, 2014

The workshop begins with classroom instruction (including a mix of  PowerPoint presentation, demonstrations, and lecture) to help participants better understand their cameras' operating modes, exposure methods, metering skills, white balance settings, and more.  This is one of the best workshops for photographers who may just be learning digital photography or who may be learning to use a new or unfamiliar digital camera.  This workshop is recommended for beginners through intermediate experience levels.

The second half of this workshop progresses to the outdoors (weather permitting) for a hands-on field lesson with instructors.  Practical techniques and composition tips for the digital photographer will be shared with participants as they photograph in the beautiful area surrounding Camp Oty Okwa in the beautiful Hocking Hills Region.  Lots of valuable one-on-one assistance will be provided.

Lunch is included.


Beginner's Digital Photography Course

August 4, 11, 18, and 25, 2014; 
Instructors: Jerry & Barb Jividen
Fee: $99

We will be covering all the fundamentals that are necessary to use a digital camera successfully. Recommended for photographers using a D-SLR camera; but this course is good for those with a point & shoot digital camera as well.

Emphasis will be on understanding the camera's features, optimal settings, tips for capturing great shots, and techniques for consistent results. 

This is a great course for:

1. Those who are getting started in the craft of photography.
2. P
hotographers who have a new digital camera, and who want to learn to better operate it.
3. T
hose who use photography to enhance other hobbies or vocations (including scrapbookers, crafters, artists, online vendors, and those in property sales).

Six-Weeks Digital Photography Course (Intro)

September 15, 22, 29 and October 6, 20, and 27, 2014

This is a six-week, entry-level digital photography course held at Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center (PRCTC) with instructors Jerry and Barb Jividen.  Both Jerry and Barb are state-certified photography instructors (since 1997), and have been teaching PRCTC Adult Education Photography Courses since 1998.  This is the first of three available courses (Intro, Intermediate, and Advanced).  
 
This course will cover:  camera settings, functions, and operation modes; controlling effects (movement/shutter speed; depth-of-field/aperture); exposure adjustments; lens and focal length choices; flash usage; and composition.  
 
Participants must book directly through the Adult Educational Department Center at Pickaway-Ross by calling PRCTC at (740) 642-2550, and dialing the Adult Education Department.

Lunch is included.

Shoot the Hills

This 14th annual photography weekend and competition is a favorite event in the Hocking Hills State Park.  This long-running event was founded by Jerry and Barb Jividen (who formed the first planning committee in 2001 with Pat Quackenbush, Eric Hoffman, and Brenda Sams), later forming the Charter Board for the Friends of the Hocking Hills State Park.  The first Shoot the Hills event was held in April 2002.  Shoot the Hills is now an official event and fundraiser of the Friends of the Hocking Hills State Park. This exciting three-day photography weekend features a 24-hour photo contest (for digital photographers), photography exhibits and programs, and a variety of outdoor and photography-related vendors.
 
Fees vary for competition and are based on the Division(s) entered (see website for more details). However, a line-up of photography and/or nature programs, and various demonstrations, are free and open to the public.
 
Monies raised from the event are used to build and maintain permanent wildlife viewing and photo blinds, habitats and exhibits in designated areas of the Hocking Hills State Park, as well as a variety of other earmarked projects. For more information, visit www.ShootTheHills.com.

Fee:  Varies based on location and travel expenses.   Topics include many prepared titles (a short list follows).  Other topics available, as well as the option of having a specific topic prepared for and geared towards your group or organization.

“Exposure in the Wild” (Emphasis:  a visual presentation featuring many how-to examples of mastering manual exposure settings in nature and wildlife photography.)

“The WildLIFE of a Nature Photographer” (Emphasis:  a visual presentation featuring hundreds of wildlife images that chronicle a year of photography in North America—including when, where and how to capture incredible images of your own.)

“Breaking the Pattern of ‘Consistently Inconsistent’ Photography” (Emphasis:  visual presentation teaching discovery and insight for controlling exposure in the constantly changing environments of wildlife and nature photography.)

“Mastering Three Dimensional Effects in a Two Dimensional Photos”  (Emphasis:  a visual presentation teaching how to create visual depth in your photography, a two-dimensional medium.)

“Photographing the Senior Market” (Emphasis:  how to distinguish yourself in the market of “Senior Pictures”—session offerings, package offerings, preparing the senior for their session, as well as posing, lighting use, equipment use, and props.)


Camera Club Presentations

Fee: Varies based on group size, status (for non-profit or profit), and desired length and location. Topics include a wide range of photography-related PowerPoint presentations for educational or entertainment purposes.  Most programs include music and sound effects, and may include speaking segments. Bookings suggested 3-6 months in advance.

Fee: Varies based on desired length and location. Tailored in-depth sessions on location. Topics include: digital photography, photo editing and software, nature/wildlife photography, studio photography, specific equipment instruction, exposure and metering lessons, marketing courses, and more. Bookings suggested 3-6 months in advance. 
 

Personal Consultations & Private Workshops

Fee:  Varies based on desired length and location (half and whole days available).  Topics include: digital photography, photo editing and software, studio lighting, equipment selection/instruction, trouble-shooting, marketing, digital file management, portfolio critiques, and more.  (Also available at "youth" levels.)  Bookings suggested 14 days minimum in advance.
