Workshop Schedule
Yellowstone in Winter
February 1-6, 2009
with Jerry & Barbara Jividen
Fee: $2,075
If you long to photograph one of America's favorite treasures in her
prime, you must visit Yellowstone in winter! While snow and ice
encapsulate the land, Yellowstone's geysers and hot springs effortlessly
produce a stark contrast, creating endless photographic opportunities!
Our small group of nature & wildlife photographers will be able to photograph
many of Yellowstone’s scenic hotspots via snowmobiles! Guides will assist you in
learning riding and safety before you begin. The daily itinerary is set to provide photographers
with maximum photography time, based on wildlife activity, weather conditions and light.
In addition to photographic instruction, this photography workshop includes breakfast and lunch each day during
your adventures and five nights of double-occupancy lodging at the West Yellowstone Conference Hotel (inquire
for single supplement). Each oversized room includes a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, hair dryer, iron, and
a data port for laptops. These and many other features make this a truly enjoyable photo adventure.
Photoshop for the Nature Photographer
March 21, 2009
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
with Jerry & Barbara Jividen
Fee: $129 or two for $235
This one-day class is designed to teach some of the most effective tools and techniques in Photoshop when working with outdoor and nature photographs. These techniques include: digital dodging and burning: removing dust spots; isolated color adjustments; sky tinting and replacement; better detail contrast (especially for wildlife); fill-flash fixer; removing unwanted distractions; special text effects for prints or poster-making; and more.
The course is designed for beginners to intermediate Photoshop users, and is recommended for those who have some knowledge of Photoshop CS2 or higher, and those who intend to upgrade from older versions. Photoshop Elements users are welcome, too, and may benefit from many of these tips and techniques.
The Jividens divide their Photoshop tasks into two categories: corrective and creative. This course steps through their process in a way that enforces good Photoshop habits and workflow techniques, while getting great results! Laptops are welcome, but are not required. Participants will receive handouts to follow along, plus a DVD of the lessons to keep and use for practice at home. Lunch is also included in the workshop fee.
The workshop facility features auditorium-style seating, as well as several large tables for those preferring to work from a flat surface (first come/first serve for table space). Lessons are projected onto a large screen, which provides easy viewing of tips and techniques.
The class will be held at the Old Bear’s Den Photography Center near Logan, Ohio, close to the Hocking Hills State Park. So for those who want to make a weekend trip, there will be plenty of photo opportunities the following day. Upon request, we will provide a Visitors Guide and a list of suggested ph
oto hotspots, as well as lodging recommendations for the weekend.
